UEFA today announced that the free to air television rights in Spain for the 2003 – 2006 UEFA Champions League seasons have been awarded to TVE.
TVE is the top free to air channel in Spain and has been an integral partner of the UEFA Champions League since its launch 11 seasons ago.
TVE will have the first choice of Wednesday games. On Tuesdays they will broadcast the second choice match simultaneously with Sogecable, who were recently awarded the exclusive Pay TV rights for the 2003 – 2006 seasons.
UEFA CEO, Gerhard Aigner, welcomed the deal, which draws to a close the sales process in Spain:
‘TVE has been a partner for the UEFA Champions League since its inception and we have had a very good relationship with them throughout the history of the competition. This agreement, coupled with the Sogecable deal, is a great result for everyone involved, not least for the Spanish football fan, and reflects the true value and attractiveness of the UEFA Champions League.’
