For the Head of The Charles® Regatta

The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) announced today that it will sponsor the legendary Oxford University Boat Club (OUBC) for the Head of The Charles Regatta, the world’s largest two-day rowing event.  The 42nd annual Head of The Charles is scheduled for October 21-22 on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts.

The partnership, the first between the organizations and the first such sponsorship for the OUBC, will include RBS branding on the OUBC uniforms, as well as both the boat and oars.  This is the first time ever that the OUBC will be participating in the championship eights division at the Head of The Charles.

“The Oxford University Boat Club is one of the premiere rowing organizations in the world, and we are proud to help make it happen for them and to have a presence at this prestigious event,” said Allan Watt, Head of Group Brand Communication, RBS.  “New England is the home of Citizens Financial Group, one of our family of U.S. brands. The U.S is an increasingly important market for RBS and is now a significant contribution to both our income and proper growth.”

The OUBC will compete with a world class team of athletes from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and France.  Between them, the members of the OUBC have won multiple World Championship and World Cup medals.

“We’re excited to compete, and we thank RBS for their support,” said Barney Williams, President, Oxford University Boat Club.  “We expect a strong showing.”
