Scottish Rugby today announces a significant six-figure, three-year sponsorship deal with banking giant Lloyds TSB.

The five-pronged agreement means Lloyds TSB are now:

  • sponsors of the Scotland women’s team and official partner of the Scottish Women’s Rugby Union;
  • sponsors of the newly-created Thistle Trust – the SRU’s charitable arm dedicated to nurturing rugby for youngsters in Scotland;
  • official financial partner to the three pro-teams (Edinburgh Rugby, Glasgow Rugby and The Borders);
  • official partner to the Scotland Rugby Supporters Club and
  • official financial partner to the Scottish Rugby Union

    • Scottish Rugby’s Chief Executive Bill Watson said today: ‘This is a landmark day for rugby in Scotland. Lloyds TSB is working in partnership with Scottish Rugby to invest nearly £1 million over the next three years into absolutely key areas of the game. We thank them for their support which will benefit communities throughout the land.’

    Susan Rice, Chief Executive, Lloyds TSB Scotland, said: ‘We have a long-standing history within the world of rugby following our title sponsorship of the Six Nations Championship.

    ‘We are keen to maintain our association with rugby and to demonstrate our commitment to the game at all levels from grassroots to the top international level here in Scotland.’

    Scottish Rugby’s Commercial and Marketing Director Phil Anderton said: ‘Lloyds TSB are now the official financial partner of Scottish Rugby, founder partner of the Thistle Trust, official partner of the SWRU and secondary partner of the Scotland Rugby Supporters’ Club, all vital areas as we seek to nurture the well-being and vitality of the game in Scotland.

    ‘Age-grade rugby will receive an enormous boost, the women’s game is receiving much-needed support and we shall shortly be in a position to offer all those involved in any aspect of the adult game, at any level, additional benefits.’

    The Lloyds TSB Sponsorship activity also has an Ambassador Programme with a host of rugby stars including Scotland back-row forward Simon Taylor who believes the new sponsors are the ideal partners for Scottish rugby.
