Feliciano Mayoral, President-CEO of Madrid 2012´s Olympic Candidacy, today signed an agreement with Madrid’s City Council and Real Madrid to work together to promote the city of Madrid on an international level. On World Tourism Day the Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon, the President of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, and Mayoral reached an agreement that will soon see Atletico de Madrid promoting the capital of Spain.
In a few days an agreement will fix the framework for the collaboration amongst the three institutions to promote activities that will strengthen the international positioning of the city in the economic, tourism and sporting spheres. Some of the principle objectives of the signed agreement include; obtaining a rapid increase in direct foreign investment for the city, increasing the number of visitors and foreigners staying overnight in Madrid and fomenting the Olympic project until selection day (6th July 2005).
The three parties have committed themselves to begin working immediately on promoting aspects that they consider will clearly improve Madrid’s image. However everything that affects the international promotion of the candidature has to wait until the International Olympic Committee (IOC) modifies the code of ethics currently governing the five candidate cities for the organization of the 2012 Olympic Games.
Real Madrid considered by the Mayor as ‘ the best ambassador that this city can have’, will contribute to making Madrid better known and a focal point for attracting tourists, to fomenting the activities of Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and the city´s sporting life and will collaborate in the promotion of sport with the aim of obtaining everyone’s dream, namely the Olympic Games.
