The National Bank is to sponsor the Black Caps from October 1 in an agreement which will see the bank become the sole major sponsor of New Zealand men’s international cricket, New Zealand Cricket announced today.
New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive, Martin Snedden, said he was extremely pleased with the sponsorship agreement.
‘It is a real vote of confidence that the bank has elected to become the sponsor of the Black Caps in addition to their continued sponsorship of the international home series.’
The National Bank has been the home series sponsor for four years.
‘The Black Caps sponsorship is long term and demonstrates the bank’s belief in NZC and the Black Caps,’ he said.
‘The bank has decided not to take up the naming rights for the team at this stage. The team will be known simply as the Black Caps.’
National Bank General Manager Corporate Affairs Cynthia Brophy said the National Bank had enjoyed an excellent profile from its sponsorship of international cricket and was proud to consolidate its investment in cricket through sponsorship of the Black Caps.
‘We recognise the importance of cricket to New Zealanders and see the sponsorship as a sound opportunity to be associated with sport,’ she said.
TelstraClear’s sponsorship of the Black Caps finishes on September 30 but the company will continue to be associated with New Zealand Cricket as NZC’s official supplier of telecommunications.
‘New Zealand Cricket has a strong relationship with TelstraClear. I am pleased the company will remain an important commercial partner.’
