The traditional Ashes battles between Great Britain and Australia, which became a casualty of the Super League war, may be revived as early as next year. The ‘war’ between the Australian Rugby League and Rupert Murdoch’s media interests led to the switch of the British game to the summer. An Australian bid to revive the tour is to be looked into by the International Rugby League Federation, and if agreed to, a Kangaroo tour could be staged as early as 2001.
