FIFA-Strasse 20 – P.O. Box – 8044 Zurich (Switzerland)
This is the official address of the Home of FIFA, the new headquarters of world football’s governing body. As of 8 May 2006, FIFA will be coordinating its activities from its new base just a stone’s throw from the Zurich zoo. The official inauguration ceremony will take place in Zurich in May 2007 to coincide with the 57th Ordinary FIFA Congress.
FIFA began its moving process on 28 April 2006 after receiving the key to the building in a small ceremony witnessed by a number of guests, representatives of the worlds of business and politics and the general contractor responsible for constructing the new headquarters. Over the weekend of 6-7 May, the FIFA employees who have been spread around various buildings in Zurich will move into their new offices, followed by their colleagues from the FIFA Marketing & TV Division in Zug a week later (13-14 May).
For FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, the Home of FIFA represents a significant milestone: “Thanks to the Goal Programme, all 207 FIFA member associations will have their own house of football by the end of 2006. I am particularly pleased, therefore, that we have been able to complete our own Goal project – a home that belongs to all of our associations – on time, and more importantly without any accidents.”
Just 23 months have passed since the laying of the foundation stone and FIFA now boasts a spectacular building that will bring all of its employees under the same roof for the first time since the mid-1970s. The brainchild of Swiss architect Tilla Theus, the new headquarters of world football’s governing body blend perfectly into the unique landscape in the vicinity of Zurich’s zoo. As well as two upper storeys, the elongated rectangular building has six underground levels, the first basement acting as the entrance to the building.
FIFA is also making a powerful statement on environmental issues, as the Home of FIFA is a “zero-emission building” thanks to modern technology that uses energy sparingly and renders fossil fuel superfluous. FIFA’s new headquarters also feature an artificial football pitch of international dimensions, a training pitch and a beach soccer pitch.
