AMP Sanmar Assurance, the Indian joint venture for Australian-based financial services company AMP Ltd, and Australian cricket team captain Steve Waugh have joined forces in India.

Mr Waugh will act as ambassador for the company in India and will feature in its marketing campaign. Mr Waugh enjoys hero status in India where cricket is a national passion and he is expected to deliver strong brand recognition for the company, which commenced operations today.

Mr Waugh said he was delighted to be associated with AMP Sanmar, particularly as it involved an Australian company taking its expertise to new markets.

‘The partnership between AMP and Sanmar will be great for the people of India, providing them with quality insurance products and services to help them create better futures for themselves and their families,’ Mr Waugh said.

The Managing Director of AMP International, Mr Tim Wade, said the relationship with Mr Waugh was an important step in building the company’s presence in India.

‘Steve has had a long association with India and has taken an active role in the country both on and off the cricket pitch. He is recognised for his drive, commitment to excellence and integrity – qualities which we plan to bring to our new venture in India,’ Mr Wade said.

AMP Sanmar also plans to work with Mr Waugh to develop additional opportunities for philanthropic activities in India in the future. Mr Waugh is already well known for his philanthropic work in the country, particularly his comimtment to Udayan.

The partnership between Mr Waugh and AMP Sanmar was co-ordinated by Mr Robert Joske from Steve Waugh’s management company, Team Duet.

Mr Joske said: ‘The partnership with AMP Sanmar represents another important step in building Steve’s off-field presence and is part of Duet’s global strategy to align him with leading international companies.’

AMP Sanmar is based in Chennai, Southern India, and will provide life insurance and savings products.
