This year’s Gold Cup Final drew to close with memorable match which saw Canada Over power the highly fancied Columbian team. Canada beat Columbia 2-0 to secure their first major international tournament triumph in over 115 years of playing international football. The match, heralded as the game of the tournament, saw Jason deVos and Carlo Corazzin score for the Canadians, while goalkeeper Craig Forrest put on a heroic display to foil Columbia’s best efforts which even included a penalty save. Fifa Presdent Sepp Blatter was present at the final, held in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and was surprised at the stanard of the Canadian team. Citing the Maple Leafs tactical play as a major factor in their success, Mr. Blatter went on to praise the standard of football in the region and the breath of fress air Canada had brought, in place of the usuall American and Mexican dominance.
