British Eurosport has today secured the live rights to one of the world’s great cycling races – The Giro D’Italia. Coverage begins on Saturday 19th May at 21:00, with live coverage every day at 14:30 from Monday 21st May.
The Giro D’Italia adds to British Eurosport’s extensive portfolio of cycling headed by the Tour de France. British Eurosport is the only UK channel broadcasting the Tour de France in 2001.
British Eurosport’s senior cycling commentator David Duffield will lead the coverage for the three weeks of the race, with eurosport.co.uk re-laying all the latest information for Internet users.
David commented; ‘The Giro in my opinion is the best race in the world, even better than the Tour De France. You can never predict the final result until at least the final two days, plus you have all the Italian flare which just adds to the whole atmosphere’.
British Eurosport’s sister company Eurosport will also be the main sponsor of the event on-site, through its Eurosport News channel – the 24 hour sports news channel available in Europe.
British Eurosport is the most widely available sports channel in the UK broadcasting world class sport with a British perspective via Sky Digital, NTL, Telewest, On Digital, Eurobell and Kingston Communications to over 8.3m UK homes. British Eurosport is 100% owned by TF1. Premium TV invests in British Eurosport by way of a contractual joint venture. Premium TV is backed by NTL.
Eurosport.co.uk was launched in December as a local site for eurosport.com. Dedicated to the UK market, the site covers a full range of sports including Premiership football, rugby, cricket, motorsport and golf. From its close working relationship with eurosport.com it offers all the best European sports news as it happens.
