The new South Korean Minister of Culture and Tourism, Kim Jong-min, promised full government support for PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games emphasizing it as the nation’s top priority.

Kim Jong-min, who is also responsible for the Korean sport agenda, visited the PyeongChang 2014 Bid Committee office as his first official task in office and thanked the staff for their efforts. He vowed to make his utmost efforts and expressed his commitment and passion for the bid.

Minister Kim, said: “Hosting the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is the most immediate priority for South Korea. I will devote myself to the PyeongChang’s bid in the lead up to the IOC vote on 4 July in Guatemala.”

Kim, a veteran administrator in sports, who worked in the Seoul Olympic Organizing Committee in 1988, will bolster PyeongChang’s bid with his excellent administrative ability and experience. He has also been a member of the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee since last year.

Han Seung-soo, Chairman of PyeongChang 2014 said: “One of the most important factors for hosting the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is the strong commitment from both the Government and the public. Over 90% of Koreans already support PyeongChang’s bid and the Korean Government is also fully committed. As an established member of our bid team, Minister Kim has great knowledge and enthusiasm to offer. In these final weeks he will provide considerable assistance.”
