Orad Hi-Tec Systems Ltd., world leader in virtual sets, virtual advertising and sports broadcasting products (Neuer Markt: OHT.f) is to launch a revolutionary 3D On Air Graphics system named CyberGraphics. Developed in conjunction with Austrian-based ARTS Computer Technologies, CyberGraphics is a novel concept for broadcast graphics for broadcasters as well as webcasters.
Dr. Miki Tamir, Orad’s Co-Founder and Executive Vice President commented: ‘With CyberGraphics we target the emerging on-air 3D graphics market currently dominated by expensive, limited and difficult to operate software tools. They all require heavy 3D design skills. Avoiding the need for previous 3D graphics design experience, CyberGraphics users can take advantage of an amazingly simple and versatile workflow as well as an intuitive and friendly interface, thus bypassing the main obstacle for using 3D on-air graphics in television stations. CyberGraphics operator work in 2D platforms and see results in 3D. We strongly believe that within a very short period CyberGraphics will become the on-air graphics industry standard as Orad’s
CyberSet system has in the virtual sets arena.’
CyberGraphics is a result of a joint development effort between Orad and ARTS Computer Technologies GmbH. Orad recently signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire the real-time 3D on-air graphics assets of ARTS Computer Technologies. The purchase price is expected to be $4 million in cash and shares plus an additional $2 million in shares conditional on meeting certain revenue targets. This acquisition will add another European research and development center, based in Innsbruk, Austria. First installations of CyberGraphics will take place in the fourth quarter of this year.
Dr. Tamir continued: ‘For the first time in our industry, broadcast graphics users are able to choose the platform they prefer: Unix (Onyx, Octane, O2), WindowsTM NT or Linux-based. We believe no other system on the market is able to provide this level of flexibility. For the first time, users will be able to get real-time performance without having to invest in expensive workstations using CyberGraphics’ ‘Near Real Time’ concept. Customers get all these features and more for just a fraction of the cost they used to pay for the current on air graphics products. We are able to offer our loyal customers an amazing price package’.
CyberGraphics control can reside on the same platform or on a remote PC computer and is done over the Internet. Users can remotely drive the virtual scene and insert or import data during broadcasting. A journalist may author and control the on-air graphics story from his home computer’.
‘Recognizing the key requirements for live on-air graphics solutions, Orad has also developed an extensive library of 3D graphic objects like geographical maps, vehicles, airplanes and animation templates, easily accessed and manipulated by CyberGraphics to ensure that broadcasters are able to prepare a most compelling 3D graphical visualization of breaking news items within minutes. This is a great production tool for news, elections, sports, finance, special events and more,’ added Dr. Tamir.
CyberGraphics fully complements PSY, a live turn-key broadcast system for high quality video insertions, video effects, character generation and on-air graphics produced by Getris, Orad’s recently acquired Grenoble-based subsidiary.
CyberGraphics will be displayed live in the News World exhibition in Barcelona between 14-17 November and in InterBEE exhibition in Chiba City in Japan between 15-17 November.
