Hal Sutton moved to number five in the Official World Golf Ranking after his wire-to-wire victory in The PLAYERS Championship on the PGA TOUR on Monday in Florida. Ironically Sutton, the last man to win The PLAYERS Championship when weather forced it to conclude on a Monday (1983), edged out the last man to win a PGA TOUR event that concluded on a Monday due to weather (2000 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am), Tiger Woods, by one stroke for the title. Returning to complete the final round after storms suspended play on Sunday afternoon local time, Sutton made seven consecutive pars to close with a final round 71 (-1) for his twelfth PGA TOUR victory. Woods threatened to launch one of his trademark come from behind charges when he eagled the sixteenth hole but after Sutton negotiated the final two holes in par he had secured the richest first prize in golf.
