Ice hockey's new Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has announced a multi-year agreement with Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC).
The deal makes CTC the league's first founding partner. It includes sponsorship of the competition's inaugural draft, where 90 women's hockey players will be selected by PWHL teams on Monday (September 18) in Toronto.
Stan Kasten, PWHL board of directors member, said: "Canadian Tire Corporation is raising the bar for investment in our sport and making history as the PWHL's first founding partner.
"Its support signifies a pivotal moment in our growth as we shape the future of women's hockey and champion equality and empowerment together through our sport."
The PWHL was officially announced on August 29 with the league set to launch with six inaugural franchises and a 24-game regular season in January 2024.
The league will feature three teams in the US – Boston, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and the New York City area – and three teams in Canada – Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa.
