North American ice hockey’s NHL has extensively altered the branding and format of its affiliated esports series.
The competition has been rebranded as the EA Sports NHL 23 World Championship for the coming edition.
The NHL has said the changes “showcase a new creative vision and an expanded calendar of events that align with the NHL season.”
They are intended to give players and fans the chance to engage with more NHL esports content than in previous years, including live Twitch streams, club tournaments, in-person events, and NHL player content.
The club championship side of the tournament will see 32 “prominent events” added to the calendar, allowing NHL clubs to expand their gaming presence.
All NHL teams will host an esports tournament.
