SailGP, the international sailing series, has today brought on board Mubadala Investment Company as the title partner for its last season two race and then the Grand Final, both to be held in California on March 26-27.
The Mubadala United States Sail Grand Prix will take place off the coast of San Francisco, with the partnership between the two organizations set to “highlight SailGP and Mubadala’s shared commitment to the city of San Francisco and build a lasting sport and purpose-driven impact”, the series has said.
The SailGP Grand Final, the second half of the San Franciso event, with its prize money of $1 million, will feature three teams, with the US and Australia having already qualified.
Mubadala, a global investment firm based in Abu Dhabi and with a San Francisco office as of 2017, will also become the presenting partner of the series’ SailGP Inspire Learning community outreach program.
Sir Russell Coutts, SailGP’s chief executive, said: “SailGP and Mubadala share like-minded goals for a better future, so we are excited that they have joined as title partner for the Grand Final in San Francisco … Mubadala’s commitment to making a positive impact on communities around the world aligns with our SailGP Inspire program.”
Last month, SailGP announced new franchise teams and locations for its expanded third season later this year.

By GlobalDataSailGP’s third season has been expanded to include ten events, with seven grands prix taking place in 2022 and the remainder in the first quarter of 2023, with the season expected to finish in April 2023.
The championship will begin in Bermuda for the second straight year in May 2022 before heading to a new destination in North America at Chicago’s Navy Pier on Lake Michigan in June. Both Bermuda and Chicago signed two-year deals that will see the league return to those locations in season four.
The series will then shift to Europe for four events, returning to Plymouth in the UK, Saint-Tropez in France, and Cadiz in Spain, while Copenhagen in Denmark will be a host city for the first time, replacing Aarhus as the Danish leg for the series.
The 2022 events will conclude with another new addition to the calendar as SailGP hosts its first Middle Eastern leg in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Season three will continue into 2023 and include an event in New Zealand as part of a major four-season partnership with New Zealand Major Events. Through the partnership, spanning seasons three to six, Christchurch and Auckland will share the hosting duties of SailGP, claiming a permanent fixture on the calendar and the first home event for the NZ Team.
Live coverage of the third season (and of this season's finale) will be available in over 175 territories through SailGP’s broadcast partners, including Australia (Fox Sports), Denmark (TV2 Sport), France (Canal+ Sport), Japan (J Sports), New Zealand (Sky Sport), South East Asia (BeIN Sports), Spain (RTVE and TV3), UK and Ireland (Sky Sports) and the US (CBS Sports), as well as across SailGP digital platforms.
