The organising committee of the 2022 Women’s Basketball World Cup, to be held in Sydney next September, has brought on board the sports division of MKTG, the international lifestyle marketing agency, to secure domestic sponsorship deals ahead of the tournament.
MKTG, part of the Dentsu Aegis Network, will work with the local organising committee to “introduce Australian partnership opportunities to brands keen to innovate, align and resonate with the core values of basketball, women's sports and leverage its global reach.”
Matt Connell, managing director for MKTG Asia-Pacific, said: “Australia has firmly established itself as one of the most progressive supporters of women's sports. We could not be more excited to engage with brands that will play a role in continuing this momentum, be a voice for the growth of basketball, and support the Opals on home soil.”
Melissa King, chief executive for the local organising committee, added: “MKTG have clearly demonstrated their level of expertise and understanding of what is required to establish authentic and strategic partnerships in sport. We are excited to align with MKTG and are confident that the partnership will deliver incremental value.”
MKTG already has a set of sporting relationships in place with top-tier Australian properties and governing bodies such as Cricket Australia, Football Australia, the Victoria Racing Club, Aussie rules' AFL and the World Surf League.
The 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will take place in Australia between 22 September and 1 October next year.
