Honda, the Japanese car manufacturer, has signed a sponsorship agreement with the World Athletics governing body around its flagship World Athletics Championships (WCH) in Tokyo, next year.
As part of the deal, Honda will provide electric vehicles as the official transportation at WCH Tokyo 25, which starts on September 13. This marks the first time Honda has partnered with World Athletics.
The official vehicles will be used for leading the marathon races, driving referees, and transporting officials and athletes involved in the event.
Sebastian Coe, World Athletics’ president, has said: “We are delighted to welcome Honda as the latest World Athletics global partner and have them on board for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 where they will provide electric vehicles as part of our common sustainability objectives.
“This giant of Japanese car manufacturing will support us to help minimize the environmental impact of our event and move closer to achieving a sustainable championships."
In September World Athletics unveiled fellow Japanese firm Otsuka Pharmaceutical as a brand sponsor of the Championships.

WCH Tokyo 25 is set to take place in the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan for nine days from September 13 to 21, 2025.
It will be the third World Championships to be held in Japan, and the second in Tokyo, which previously hosted the event in 1991.
