Arsenal, the top English soccer club, have promoted Omar Mohammed Shaikh to a new role as global partnerships and ventures director.

He will officially take up the new position at the Premier League side in August.

Shaikh will now be reporting directly to chief commercial officer Juliet Slot and will take responsibility for shaping and delivering the Premier League side’s commercial strategy, and driving growth across its partner services, partnership development, and commercial ventures teams.

His promotion comes just under a year after he joined from rivals Liverpool to become Arsenal’s partnership development director.

The North London club, who finished second in the league last season, enjoyed a strong commercial year, which included renewing its long-standing front-of-shirt sponsorship with Emirates, bringing in eight new partners, and securing its first-ever training ground rights partner in Sobha Realty.

Slot has said: “Last season we pushed ourselves far, breaking records across both our teams, bringing in new partners, and bolstering our commercial team. All of us remain focused on building on this progress.

“Omar and our commercial team are essential for this. In his new role, he will lead in deepening our relationships with all our partners, unlocking new opportunities to generate revenue that can be reinvested in our teams, and accelerating our growth internationally to connect with our supporters around the world.”

Shaikh's promotion is the second to be announced by Arsenal this year after the club revealed that Richard Garlick will step up to the position of managing director ahead of 2024-25.

Garlick, 47, who has been the London club’s director of football operations since May 2021, has replaced Vinai Venkatesham who stepped down after nearly four years in the role at the end of last season.
