YuppTV, the OTT streaming platform for South Asian content, has unveiled streaming rights to the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), the prestigious domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, in over 70 countries.
This includes the markets of continental Europe, Japan, China, Southeast Asia, and the prominent cricket market of New Zealand.
In that latter country, Sky NZ has covered the last decade of the Twenty20 tournament.
This tie-up, unveiled earlier today, comes as an extension to YuppTV’s IPL coverage. The platform has been a major broadcaster of the league across the last few editions.
The 2024 season of the 74-match, 10-team IPL begins on Friday (March 22), and will end in late May.
Uday Reddy, chief executive at YuppTV, said: “Securing the digital telecast rights for the IPL 2024 is a testament to YuppTV's steadfast commitment to delivering premium sports content to our global audience. The IPL has evolved into one of the most prestigious cricketing events worldwide, and we are thrilled to bring this exhilarating tournament to fans across more than 70 countries.”
Domestically, the 2024 IPL will be covered by Star India through linear TV, and via Viacom18 as a streaming option. Those deals were struck in advance of the 2023 tournament, and run through 2027.
In terms of broadcast coverage in other major cricket markets meanwhile, pay-TV heavyweight Foxtel holds rights in Australia.
The IPL teams are currently engaged in the usual last-minute scramble for commercial partners.
YuppTV, in terms of its cricket coverage, also showed last year’s Asia Cup national teams competition in over 70 countries.
