WRC Promoter, the rights holder of motor racing’s World Rally Championship (WRC), has announced a 10-year agreement with Saudi Arabia, adding it to the race calendar from 2025.
The deal, which is subject to FIA World Motor Sport Council approval, will lead to the WRC’s return to the Middle East for the first time since the 2011 Jordan Rally.
While Saudi Arabia has never hosted a WRC event before, it has hosted other motorsports events such as the Dakar Rally and Formula 1 (F1).
From 2025, the country will host F1, Formula E, Extreme E, the Dakar Rally, and WRC.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem added: “This is a great moment for motorsport in the Middle East. It has been over a decade since the FIA World Rally Championship last visited the region, and from my own experience, I know very well the unique challenges that the drivers and co-drivers will face when Rally Saudi Arabia gets underway in 2025.”
The WRC recently announced a new multi-year global partnership with international sports-focused streaming heavyweight DAZN to distribute the Rally.TV over-the-top service.
