European streaming network Viaplay has secured exclusive rights in Sweden to the new 4 Nations Face-Off ice hockey tournament organized by the NHL and its players' association.

The nine-day competition, featuring NHL stars from Finland, Sweden, Canada, and the US, will be played from February 12 to 20.

Viaplay will provide coverage of the entire tournament through its free-to-air broadcast network, TV6, and via its streaming services.

The Sweden-based platform is a long-standing international media partner of the NHL.

Swedish stars Gustav Forsling, Victor Hedman, Erik Karlsson, Filip Forsberg, William Nylander, and Mika Zibanejad are among the NHL players selected to represent Sweden.

Sweden and Canada will face off in the tournament’s first game on February 12, in Montreal.

The team’s second game, also in Montreal, is a matchup against rival Finland on February 15, before the final group-stage game in Boston against the US on February 17.

The 4 Nations Face-Off will feature a total of seven games - four at the Bell Center in Montreal and three games, including the championship game, at the TD Garden in Boston.

All matches are played according to NHL rules in an NHL arena.

Each team plays three matches in the first round, where three points are awarded for a win in regular time, two points for a win in overtime or a shootout, one point for a loss in overtime or a shootout, and zero points for a loss in regular time.

The two teams with the most points in the preliminary series advance to the final.

The agreement with Viaplay in Sweden now sees broadcast deals struck in each competing market.

In October, commercial broadcaster Nelonen acquired rights in Finland. The tournament will be shown in the US on the ESPN, ABC, and TNT networks, while Sportsnet and TVA will provide coverage in Canada.
