Supercross promoters SX Global bought by investor group

The investor group is headed by Sunderland AFC co-owners Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori.

Sports entertainment firm SX Global, promoter of the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX), has been purchased by a group of investors that includes 26-year-old French businessman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.

SX Global restarted WSX, stadium supercross racing’s premier championship, in 2022 after it split from the AMA Supercross Championship, which it had been merged with since 2008. The purchase has been confirmed today (September 8).

The consortium purchasing SX Global includes Louis-Dreyfus, Uruguayan businessman and senator Juan Sartori, and will see Adam Bailey continue as CEO.

Adam Bailey is the co-creator of the AUS-X Open, Australia’s largest-ever supercross event. Bailey has been CEO of SX Global since November 2022 and under his watch, the company appointed Sports infrastructure, technology, and media rights business TGI Sport in January to expand WSX’s sponsorship portfolio.

Louis-Dreyfus stated: “We’ve identified exciting opportunities for the burgeoning championship and can’t wait to further showcase the thrill of the sport and talent of these amazing athletes to more people around the world.”

He continued: “While we aspire to expand and elevate WSX to become a globally renowned championship, we also recognize the need for immediate short-term changes to ensure a brighter future. There’s a lot of work to do, but we’re excited for the challenge.”

In late April, WSX extended its long-standing contract with energy drink Monster to partner the championship. Since 2007, Monster has been the official energy drink of Supercross and Pro Motocross.

The WSX itself has already been expanding globally in recent months with the announcement in June that Singapore would host the first-ever WSX Asian Grand Prix.

This supported SX Global’s aims of broadening the sport’s previously US-based horizons after reforming. SX Global won the tender to be the promoter of WSX for ten years in December 2021.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori are both co-owners of second-tier English soccer side Sunderland AFC. Louis-Dreyfus is also a shareholder in French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille and owner of esports organization Ovation. Sartori, meanwhile, is the vice-president of and board member of fellow French side AS Monaco.
