STN Video, the Canada-based media company, has today announced a new partnership with motor racing’s Formula 1 (F1).

The agreement will allow publishers on the STN Online Video Platform to deliver F1 video clips to their users monthly.

The deal has been struck ahead of this weekend’s (November 19) inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix.

F1 achieved significant increases in US live race viewership in 2022, leading to a record average of 1.21 million viewers per race.

STN Video is a platform that allows content publishers access to its video player and, as such, content from partnered services. The platform claims to have an audience across over 2,000 publishing partners that reach over 50 million users every month.

Jonny Haworth, Formula 1 director of commercial partnerships, said: “We have been thrilled with how engaged, passionate, and involved our growing North American fan base has become, and the demand for Formula 1 content continues to increase.

“Our agreement with STN Video, and the huge reach provided by its publishing partners, will ensure that level of engagement and growth continues.”

Yarko Petryshyn, director of business development at STN Video, added: “The growth in popularity of Formula 1 is directly related to the new and innovative ways that they are connecting with fans, and we are delighted that our publishers will now be able to deliver Formula 1 content to their users.”

F1 will join several sports organizations in partnering with STN Video, including American football's NFL and Major League Soccer, which renewed their respective deals with the digital platform recently.

Elsewhere in major North American sports, STN Video has partnerships with Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League.

STN Video has also been the exclusive highlights distribution partner of the PGA Tour, having done so since 2014. STN covers 100 official highlights per round for PGA Tour events as part of the deal, which it renewed in May 2022.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix is the penultimate race of the 2023 F1 season, before concluding in Abu Dhabi on November 26.

Sports industry becoming increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks

The world of sport is an extremely lucrative one, which therefore makes it a prime target for hackers. A report from the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre in 2020 found that 70% of sporting organizations were subject to at least one attack every year. Microsoft recently declared that sporting events and venues are becoming increasingly vulnerable to cyber-attacks. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Microsoft observed several attack attempts on connected systems through identity-based attacks.
