Leading pay-TV broadcaster Star India has today unveiled a tie-up with data and analytics provider CricViz around the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup and Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournaments later this year.

Star has brought in CricViz as its official data analysis and insights partner ahead of both the 2024 domestic franchise IPL (late March to late May) and the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup (June 1 to 29 in the US and Caribbean).

The tie-up will see Star use CricViz analysts “across live broadcasts” and to “power on-screen graphics and analysis for pre and post-match shows.”

Both parties have said that CricViz’s introduction as a Star partner for the first time “will provide viewers with a fresh and unique approach.”

Star Sports holds all-encompassing rights to the T20 World Cup, through a deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC) from mid-2022, and linear TV rights to this year’s 10-team IPL.

These tournaments are two of the most popular cricket competitions for an Indian audience.

CricViz is owned by Ellipse, which also operates tennis’ TennisViz, and in January agreed on a deal to provide its services to South Africa’s SA20 T20 franchise league.

CricViz data, visualizations, and analysis were present across SA20 digital platforms during that tournament.

Elsewhere, the ICC has opened a tender process for media strategy, buying, and planning services for the T20 World Cup across the US and Caribbean.

The Dubai-based governing body is looking for an Indian agency “to develop and deliver an end-to-end media solution for the tournament campaign.”

The ICC is looking for companies who have “extensive experience in successfully providing media strategy, [and] buying and planning services for a comparable global event,” to apply.

The deadline for applications is March 2022, and these should be emailed to marketingitt@icc-cricket.com.

The same contact should be used for queries about this process - and there is a deadline for any such questions of March 15.

The ICC is currently carrying out a media rights sales process in its key markets for its next commercial cycle - of which the T20 World Cup is the first major event. So far, deals have been unveiled in India, the UK, the US, Australia, the Middle East and North Africa, and South Africa.

Announcements of coverage in New Zealand and the Caribbean (e.g. for some of the T20 World Cup host nations) are expected shortly.
