International pay-TV heavyweight Sky has secured rights to TGL, the tech-infused golf league founded by icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports entertainment venture, across the key markets of the UK and Ireland, Germany, Italy, and New Zealand.
A two-year deal through which Sky will show the six-team league was unveiled in late December, with TGL’s inaugural season beginning on January 7 (Tuesday) in Palm Beach, Florida.
Sky subscribers, as well as those for its affiliate over-the-top streaming service Now TV, will be able to watch all the two-hour matches across 115 custom-designed holes that TGL comprises.
All action across the 2025 and 2026 TGL seasons will be covered by Sky in the aforementioned territories, taking the total number of countries the golf league will be shown to 85.
Recent broadcast deals for the indoor property include Canal Plus snapping up rights in France, Switzerland, and sub-Saharan Africa, and an agreement with the Disney+ streaming service in the Nordics.
The Germany (Sky Deutschland) element of this latest deal also includes Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein.
For Sky, meanwhile, the deal adds to a bulging golf portfolio, which includes all men’s and women’s majors in 2025, as well as the iconic Ryder Cup (men’s) and Solheim Cup (women’s) Europe vs USA tournaments.
The first-ever TGL match will take place at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens. The league is set to make its long-awaited debut with initial plans to begin in 2024 having been scrapped due to storm damage to the host venue.
It will feature six teams of PGA Tour stars competing in a season-long competition from January through March.
Jason Wesssely, director of golf at Sky Sports, has said: “TGL is such a new and exciting golf format that will attract both old and new fans to the sport, in a year where golf has already seen significant growth. We’re delighted to be able to be part of the TGL journey from the start.”
Mike McCarley, TMRW Sports’ chief executive and founder, added: “Sky Sports is the ideal home for TGL to reach fans who are accustomed to turning to Sky to find the best golfers in the world.”
