International sailing series SailGP has added prominent Brazilian broadcaster Globo to its media partner stable for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Globo joins BandSports, the sports-dedicated cable TV network, as a broadcast partner of SailGP in that market. BandSports has covered the sailing series since its second season in 2022 and will continue its existing coverage alongside Globo.
This deal has been unveiled days ahead of the season-opening race for 2024-25, taking place in Dubai between November 23 and 24.
It has also come with a Brazilian team, title sponsored by Mubadala, making its SailGP debut this upcoming campaign, and an inaugural Brazilian SailGP event off the coast of Rio de Janeiro scheduled for May 3 and 4.
Globo, SailGP has said, will provide full coverage of all races, while the pair will also work together to promote both the championship overall and the Brazilian SailGP team specifically.
This will be accomplished “through Globo’s range of media platforms,” including across both the TV Globo and Sportv networks via news reports, social media coverage, and “on-air promotional spots.”
Andrew Thompson, managing director of SailGP, has said: “Brazil has long been an engaged market for the league, ranking among our highest in social media consumption. With a new team and home event, and now a major broadcast partnership, we look forward to bringing the most exciting racing on water to a new audience in this sport-loving nation.”
The 2024-25 SailGP season will feature a record 14-race campaign featuring four new locations - Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, and Auckland in New Zealand - and 11 teams.
Last week, a five-year deal extension and expansion of the series’ commercial deal with the Emirates airline was announced.
