International sailing series SailGP has extended its broadcasting deal in the US with CBS Sports, part of the Paramount Global media and entertainment conglomerate, with a trio of US races taking place across 2024-25.

Through a new one-year deal, CBS Sports will feature 54 hours of coverage - a record number - from the 2024-25 SailGP season, which got underway late last month in Dubai.

This continues CBS Sports’ record as the home of SailGP in the US since that competition launched in 2019, with the broadcaster having shown action from all four seasons since.

The main CBS TV network will cover 12 of the 14 races this season, providing an hour of coverage on each occasion (starting between 2:30pm and 3:30pm on December 7, when Dubai Sail Grand Prix action will be shown) while CBS Sports Network will provide coverage of every racing day.

There are three US races scheduled for 2024-25 - Los Angeles and San Francisco in March, and New York in June - while the US team finished eighth in the 2023-24 campaign.

Russell Coutts, chief executive and founder at SailGP, said: “Coming off record-breaking audience figures from last season, CBS Sports’ expanded commitment to our league provides another proof point that SailGP is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports and entertainment properties.”

The 2024-25 SailGP season features a record 14 races, four new locations - Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, and Auckland in New Zealand - and 11 teams.

In terms of recent broadcast deals, November saw tie-ups unveiled in the UK (TNT Sports), Spain (Movistar Plus TV), and Brazil (Globo).

These have come after the series secured record-breaking broadcast audience figures for 2023-24.

The heavyweight sports marketing agency IMG assists SailGP with selling its international media rights.

The series has also announced a new commercial partnership with DP World, and significant deal expansions with Emirates and Rolex (now in as the series’ title partner).
