US golf’s PGA Tour has expanded its major tie-up with EA Sports and will now see its courses and events feature in the video game developer’s Golf Clash mobile offering.

For the first time in Golf Clash, for example, players will be able to compete in a version of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.

This event marks the culmination of the FedExCup Playoffs and the first year of a multi-year EA Sports and PGA Tour agreement, which will bring a series of real-world courses and events into Golf Clash over the coming years.

Nine of the Tour Championship holes at East Lake Golf Club will be available to play in the mobile game from August 24 to 27, with practice rounds starting on August 21.

Dubbed the Tour Championship 9-Hole Cup, the in-game tournament is free to enter and will include nine holes from the East Lake Golf Club.

This deal is in addition to the existing EA Sports PGA Tour console and PC offerings.

Golf Clash, created and developed by Electronic Arts subsidiary Playdemic, is one of the leading mobile games in the US and UK, with 111 million worldwide lifetime downloads.

Andrew Pedersen, vice president of mobile sports at Electronic Arts, said: “Our player communities keep growing, seven years into the game, and we’re thrilled to see that we have a competitive golf game that continues to attract new mobile players.

“Our focus remains on providing them with the best gameplay experience and we’re excited to give them the opportunity to play the Tour Championship and East Lake Golf Club in Golf Clash.”

AI in sports mainly focuses on employing machine learning and computer vision technologies

The sports industry’s adoption of AI will focus on computer vision (CV) and machine learning (ML). Successful applications of ML have helped the decision-makers at sports companies, broadcasters, and leagues find underlying trends in vast datasets. This analysis informs their strategy, on and off the pitch. CV is mainly used in training, officiating, performance analysis, and injury prevention. Many teams using this technology have reported a decline in lost days due to injury. There is untapped potential for generative AI in sports.
