Petronas, the Malaysian oil and gas company, has struck a three-year naming rights deal with authorities at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) motorsport venue in that country.

For the next three years, the venue will be known as Petronas Sepang International Circuit, with the 2023 edition of the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia, on the MotoGP motorcycling series, to take place across November 10 to 12. That event will remain titled as such until at least 2024.

Azhan Shafriman Hanif, chief executive at SIC, has said: "This development shall open doors to new opportunities to host more world-class events at our world-class venue for Petronas as one of the industry leaders in motorsports through its engagements in Formula 1 and MotoGP.”

The oil and gas firm is currently the exclusive fuel supplier of the Moto2 and Moto3 support series for MotoGP, through a partnership extension in October last year.

In terms of Formula 1, meanwhile, the brand has a major partnership in place with heavyweight team Mercedes - technically called Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 - in place until beyond 2026. Those two parties first partnered in 2010.

The SIC has previously hosted F1 action, between 1999 and 2017.

Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, senior manager of group strategic relations and communications at Petronas, added: “This partnership goes beyond just naming rights - it signifies our dedication to promoting world-class events, fostering talent development, and showcasing our nation’s capabilities on a global stage.
