Global media giant and Olympic Games rightsholder Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has announced a new broadcast partnership in Australia with the country’s Stan Sport streaming service to showcase the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Stan, the sports-focused over-the-top service of Australian commercial free-to-air network Nine, will broadcast all 329 events of the upcoming games, which begin on July 26 and run through August 11, in partnership with WBD’s pan-European sports broadcast property Eurosport.

Stan Sport, launched in 2021, will also sublicense content from Eurosport with the addition of eight multi-language international channels, with Olympic coverage from the UK, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, and Italy helping to make up eight exclusive broadcast channels on the OTT streamer, supporting Nine Network’s own coverage.

The broadcaster is also licensing content from India’s Viacom 18 and New Zealand’s Sky NZ in order to expand its coverage of the games in different languages.

Nine snapped up Australian rights to the Olympics through a deal unveiled in February last year, running through the 2032 games - which will take place in Brisbane.

On Stan Sport, the Olympics will be broadcast in 4K UltraHD clarity for the first time with a dedicated 24/7 Olympic news channel and four exclusive live feature channels carrying multiple different Olympic feeds and two exclusive Olympic-focused ancillary TV shows.

Unveiling the service's Olympic coverage expansion, Stan Sport chief executive Martin Kuegler stated: “We are proud to bring a world-first to our audience. Thanks to the [International Olympic Committee] and the great partners of Eurosport, Viacom18 and Sky New Zealand, Stan Sport will bring curated official international channels in multiple languages, making the Olympics more accessible to more Australians than ever before.”

“Due to our unique live and on-demand offering, we will make sure Australian sport fans can watch every epic moment from Paris 2024 when and where they want."

At the last Summer Olympics, in Tokyo three years ago, Australia secured a total of 46 medals.
