Uruguay’s soccer governing body the AUF has announced a long-term partnership with global sportswear giant NIKE, which will continue as the official kit supplier of its men’s national team.
The partnership, which will run at least through the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will see Nike provide all Uruguay home and away kits as well as training wear.
Nike was one of four brands to lodge bids for the kit deal in the country where soccer support is rampant. The other three brands were Germany’s adidas and Puma, as well as Spanish sportswear retailer Kelme, which most prominently covers the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Through a short-term deal, Nike provided Uruguay kits at the most recent Copa America, South America’s continental national team tournament.
Before that, Uruguay had long been partnered with Puma for its kit provision, from 2006 through 2023.
At the time of its end, GlobalData Sport estimated that the Puma deal was worth $3.5 million per year across the course of its final renewal (2017-2023).
By comparison, the short-term Nike deal was worth an estimated $2 million for the 2024 tournament only.
Between the end of the Puma deal and the beginning of the short-term Nike contract, Uruguay played two matches in generic unbranded kits.
The Uruguay national team’s next fixture is on October 12, when the team will face Peru in a 2026 World Cup qualifier away, before playing at home in another qualifier against Ecuador on October 16.
