Motor racing’s iconic Formula 1 (F1), has agreed a six-year extension for the iconic Monza track to continue staging the Italian Grand Prix in an agreement with the Automobile Club of Italy, the race organizer.

Monza’s deal with F1 was due to expire at the end of the 2025 season but the renewed deal will now run through the 2031 campaign.

The new contract follows significant upgrades to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza ahead of the 2024 Grand Prix, where 335,000 fans attended across the weekend to see Ferrari's Charles Leclerc claim the win.

Monza has hosted more F1 races than any other circuit, staging a Grand Prix every year since the inaugural World Championship in 1950, apart from in 1980 when the circuit was closed for renovations.

F1 claims to be seeing strong growth in Italy, particularly in broadcast numbers with a cumulative audience of 183.3 million in 2023.

The motor racing series holds two events in Italy annually, including the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Imola circuit. The contract for the Imola race is also up for renewal with the current contract expiring after the 2025 season.

The 2025 Italian Grand Prix will take place from 5 – 7 September next year.

Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1, said: “Monza is at the very heart of Formula 1 history, and the atmosphere each year is unique.

“The recent upgrades to the circuit’s infrastructure and the planned investment show a strong commitment to the long-term future of Formula 1 in Italy.”

F1 also recently renewed a hosting contract with the organisers of the Monaco Grand Prix, on the same six-year deal through 2031.

Other locations with contracts currently set to expire after 2025 include Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Mexico City, Zandvoort in the Netherlands, and Las Vegas in the US.

The current F1 season will soon conclude with just two races remaining – in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

The 2025 campaign will again feature a 24-race calendar, starting with the Australian Grand Prix on 16 March and the traditional finish in Abu Dhabi in early December.
