North America’s Major League Baseball (MLB) has entered into a sustainability-focused commercial deal with environmental services provider WM.
That brand becomes the first sustainability-focused partner in MLB history.
Through a tie-up unveiled today, WM becomes the presenting sponsor of activations MLB has planned for Earth Day and Green Week, and will also “offer sustainability advisory services” to the 30 MLB franchises.
In addition, WM is set to support designated MLB Green Teams at various league events such as the All-Star Week, and the World Series.
Noah Garden, MLB’s deputy commissioner for business and media, said: “This new partnership with WM takes our sustainability efforts to new heights. We look forward to continuing this work with WM as we host best-in-class events that are sustainability-focused driven for years to come.”
WM’s chief sustainability officer, Tara Hemmer, added: "Our expertise has helped us triple the number of customers in the sports space since 2021 – including leagues, events, teams, and venues -- and we look forward to the incredible opportunity to build comprehensive and custom plans designed to improve sustainable operations for MLB and its clubs.”
Last week (April 16), MLB announced a new partnership with US drinking water company BlueTriton, which will now serve as the new water partner of the league in a multi-year deal.
The MLB 2024 regular season began on March 20 and runs through September 29.
