The Spanish Soccer Federation (RFEF) and Mapfre have reached an agreement making the insurance firm the first-ever title sponsor of the men’s Copa del Rey knockout cup competition and the final of the women’s Copa de la Reina.
As part of the agreement, the men's competition will be renamed the Copa del Rey Mapfre for the duration of the three-year deal.
The new agreement will debut during the matches played today (29 October), where Mapfre branding will be present.
In September, the RFEF hired former Real Madrid executive Ramón Plaza Bautista to head up its commercial operations.
As the federation's commercial director, he leads the governing body’s new commercial and business development department.
The RFEF has undergone a period of significant change within its senior leadership team over the past year.
Despite a year of turmoil at the RFEF, the Spanish national team has enjoyed success on the pitch by winning the Women’s World Cup, the UEFA European Championship, and a gold medal in the men’s team Olympic soccer tournament.
