English soccer giants Manchester City have unveiled a new multi-year partnership with digital collectibles platform and NFT (non-fungible token) marketplace Quidd.
Through the partnership Quidd, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based game publisher Animoca Brands, will on May 2 launch an initial series of over 200 collectible digital “cards” based around the club's roster of players, among other themed digital products that will be released surrounding the unveiling of the partnership.
Furthermore, Quidd will provide opportunities for Manchester City fans to win real-world rewards for their online collecting, including club merchandise, match tickets, and a range of experiences.
Quidd chief executive Michael Bramlage stated of the deal: “This partnership signals our intent to revolutionize the world of sport collectibles, so it makes sense for Quidd to align with Manchester City, the most forward-thinking and progressive soccer club on Earth.”
Tom Boyle, vice-president of global partnerships and marketing at (Manchester City owners) City Football Group added: “We’re excited to help transform the traditional soccer pastime of cards and collectibles in a new digital age alongside Quidd, enabling us to further connect with our fans across the globe. We look forward to working together on creating new digital experiences and games for our fans to enjoy.”
Quidd joins a number of high profile Manchester City partners including top line global sponsors such as airline Etihad Airways and sportswear manufacturer Puma, all of which contributed to the club posting Premier League record revenue for the 2022-23 season.
The tie-up is Quidd’s second such agreement with a high-profile English Premier League side in as many months, meanwhile.
In March, Quidd announced a partnership with Newcastle United, becoming the club’s first official digital collectible partner, providing a similar series of over 200 collectible cards for Newcastle fans to collect.
