LFP flies into Sport 24-Ligue 1 highlights deal

Sport 24 will showcase a weekly 26-minute Ligue 1 highlights show.

LFP Media, the media sales arm of French soccer’s LFP governing body, has announced a new multi-year partnership with Sport 24, the in-flight and on-ship entertainment service owned by international sports agency IMG, that will see France's Ligue 1 top-flight men's soccer competition brought to the service.

This will come in the form of a 26-minute weekly highlights compilation program that covers the fixtures from each gameweek.

This three-year partnership will run through the 2026-27 campaign, beginning with the remainder of the ongoing 2024-25 season.

Sport 24 is available on board airlines including Etihad, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines, and is also carried by multiple cruise lines.

Speaking on the deal Martin Aurenche, LFP Media chief media officer, stated: “This partnership with Sport 24 is a great opportunity to connect with fans worldwide and introduce new audiences to the flair and excitement of Ligue 1."

Sport24 holds a number of high profile global soccer rights on its platform and most recently extended its partnership with Asian soccer’s AFC governing body to cover its continental competitions through 2028-29.

The service also has had deals over the last few years in place with European soccer's governing body UEFA, and with global body FIFA.

This Sport24 partnership comes at a tumultuous time for the LFP, and LFP Media in particular, after LFP’s offices were raided by authorities amid a probe into the body’s dealings with the CVC Capital Partners private equity firm which owns a 13% stake in LFP Media.

The French senate published a report pertaining to its investigation into LFP Media at the beginning of November that described the LFP overall as potentially suffering from “deep dysfunctions.”

Following that development. LFP Media chief executive and director general Benjamin Morel resigned.

As another example of the chaos, domestic rights for the current cycle were only secured a matter of weeks before the start of 2024-25.
