L’Equipe, the French free-to-air digital terrestrial channel, has acquired broadcasting rights for motor racing’s Dakar rally, organized by the Amaury group, with France Télévisions having recently chosen not to renew their rights deal.

Coverage will take place from January 5 to 19, 2024, with the car, motorcycle, trucks, and classic categories from the iconic all being shown in the 46th edition of the rally.

L’Equipe will cover the event, which is being held in Saudi Arabia for the fifth time, for four hours each day.

This includes pre and post-race shows, as well as race repeats being shown each following day.

Jérôme Saporito, director of the TV division of L’Équipe, has said: “The Dakar is part of the heritage of French sport. It is the traditional January meeting for all car and motorcycle fans and it is also a human adventure bringing together nearly 850 participants.

“This is why the L'Équipe group has positioned itself with an exceptional system for this event which brings together everything that sport can bring in terms of suspense, thrills, and emotions but also a change of scenery and dreams.”

L’Equipe also recently snapped up rights to cover Brazil and Argentina’s qualifying matches in advance of the men’s 2026 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament, whilst also holding rights to a range of action from the European World Cup qualifying section.
