Spanish soccer’s LaLiga has posted a profit of €12.1 million ($13.30 million) for the 2022-23 season, with overall revenue coming in at almost €2 billion.
The league has finally returned to profit after suffering losses in the last two seasons - €6 million in 2021-22 and €16 million in 2020-21.
LaLiga’s annual accounts were unanimously approved by its executive committee and the board of directors of LaLiga Group International. They will soon be submitted for final approval at the league’s general assembly.
LaLiga recorded annual revenue of €1.99 billion, representing an increase of €55.3 million compared to the previous campaign.
Most of the revenue came through audiovisual rights which stood at €1.8 billion, a rise of €38.8 million from the 2021-22 season.
In terms of commercial income, the Spanish top-flight brought in €150.2 million from sponsorships and licenses, up €18.5 million.
LaLiga attributed the commercial growth to “the acquisition of new sponsors in new sectors and territories.”
The Spanish top-tier will be entering the first season of its five-year title sponsorship agreement with video game developer EA Sports understood to be worth around €30 million annually.
This week, LaLigaTV Bar, the public establishments ‘horeca’ channel launched by the league, secured rights to show all European soccer’s club competitions domestically across hotels, restaurants, and bars after striking a rights deal with governing body UEFA for the 2024-27 cycle.
The deal covers rights to broadcast matches from the top-tier Champions League (UCL), second-tier Europa League, and third-tier Europa Conference League, as well as the European Super Cup competition starting from the 2024-25 season.
