Major sports and entertainment agency Infront has secured a number of long-term broadcast agreements for athletics’ premier one-day series, the Diamond, League from 2025.
Infront is in charge of Diamond League rights distribution, in a deal with governing body World Athletics running through 2029, and has outlined a new wave of deals today.
Free-to-air agreements have been signed, starting next season, in Latvia with LTV, Switzerland with SRG, and Germany with ARD and ZDF (via SportA), which will show up to five live events per season as well as highlights.
New partnerships have also been struck in the Czech Republic and Slovakia with Pragosport, and Russia with MatchTV.
Extensions to existing deals, meanwhile, have been outlined with Arena in the Balkans, Polsat in Poland, MTVA in Hungary, SportTV in Portugal, and Ziggo in the Netherlands.
Jens Mennigmann, co-head of media at Infront, has said: "Securing this mix of both free-to-air and pay-TV coverage is a promising beginning to this phase of our relationship with the Diamond League.
“Our focus is now on building this momentum and we are now actively engaging with other broadcasters to ensure the excitement of every event is brought to an ever-widening audience."
Infront has also said that the rights sales process in other territories is ongoing.
Petr Stastny, chief executive of Diamond League AG, added: "These broadcast agreements symbolize the next stage in the evolution of our series, fitting perfectly with our vision for its growth.
“Our partnership with Infront reflects a shared commitment to elevate the profile of athletics globally, reach more fans, and leverage all its commercial potential."
The partnership is a subset of Infront’s with World Athletics, who govern the Diamond League, with the deal also covering the global media rights partnerships for the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold and Indoor Tour Gold.
The 2024 Diamond League is running between April 20 and September 14.
