IndyCar and Firestone in lengthy extension

Bridgestone's Firestone brand continues as the exclusive tire supplier of the US motor racing series.

Firestone, the US tire company owned by Japan’s Bridgestone, has unveiled a long-term extension to continue as the exclusive tire supplier of US motor racing’s IndyCar Series.

Through a tie-up with the Penske Entertainment company behind IndyCar, Firestone will continue as the sole supplier of tires for all IndyCar Series races, as well as the developmental Indy NXT series, and the annual Indianapolis 500 iconic event.

The Bridgestone brand is currently in its 25th consecutive season operating as IndyCar’s exclusive tire supplier.

The last tie-up between the two parties was disclosed in February 2019, in a deal running through 2025.

The multi-year extension also means Firestone will continue as the presenting sponsor of Indy NXT, a collaboration that began in 2023.

In addition, Firestone’s status as the official partner and tire supplier of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway venue is extended.

As well as these designations, Firestone will continue as a marketing partner of both the IndyCar Series and Indy NXT. The activations will include fan engagement, sponsorships, signage at multiple venues, “robust social and digital media programs,” traditional media, and hospitality.

Roger Penske, chair at the Penske Corporation, has said: “Firestone has been a foundational partner for our sport, from the very first Indy 500 to now, playing an integral role in the development of the IndyCar Series and its highly competitive racing. We’re extremely proud to carry this long-term partnership forward.”

In late July, PPG, the paints and coatings supplier, announced an extension of its partnerships with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IndyCar itself, and Team Penske, through 2029.

The deal was unveiled just as IndyCar’s 2024 season - which ran between March 10 and September 15 - came to an end.

The 2025 campaign will begin on March 2.
