IMG, the global sports and entertainment agency, has announced the appointment of Ian Moffitt as senior vice president of business development for its studios business.

In the newly created role, he will be responsible for the growth of IMG’s production and studios business in the UK and internationally, working closely with IMG’s vice president and business development director, Jo Ormston.

Moffitt will be based at IMG’s studio facilities in Stockley Park, London and report directly to IMG’s executive vice president of studios, Barney Francis.

He has more than 25 years’ experience working in the international broadcast industry, having held roles both in the UK and Los Angeles.

Moffitt previously served as commercial director of BBC Studios Factual Production, where he was credited with driving the growth of the public-service broadcaster’s factual unit both domestically and globally, with a focus on the US market and IP development.

Before joining the BBC, he was a senior agent at US talent agency ICM Partners, representing UK and European production companies and documentary directors.

His previous titles also include head of original programming at Yahoo, head of premium content at Machinima, and head of digital video at Berman Braun.

Francis said: “This has been a tremendous year for growth of our studios business, landing globally significant production projects like Apple's MLS Season Pass, the FIFA Women’s World Cup on BBC, and Channel 4’s England international coverage, with more to come.

“We’re delighted to have Ian on board to drive this even further and expand our opportunities both internationally and domestically.”

Moffitt added: “This is an incredibly exciting time to join the team at IMG, as the global appetite for sports programming and coverage continues to grow apace.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with the team and the opportunity to be part of the growth and expansion of one of the most innovative and respected sports producers in the world.”

In August, IMG hired Sally Brown and Steve Rudge as its first production vice presidents and co-heads of multi-sport content.

The duo are overseeing IMG’s production relationships with sports properties such as mixed martial arts' UFC, Super League Rugby, World’s Strongest Man, World Championship Snooker, and top-tier tennis.

They are also responsible for business development and new commercial opportunities within IMG, across digital, sales, data, and technology.

IMG produces live coverage for several other major sports and leagues, including English soccer’s Premier League and English Football League, MLS, CBS’ UEFA Champions League and Europa League coverage, golf’s DP World Tour and Ryder Cup, and EuroLeague basketball.

The agency produces top-tier soccer for broadcast from Stockley Park, while its Leeds premises are used for its production of Super League action.

Analyzing the dynamics and business of the English Premier League

The Premier League is one of the biggest and most popular soccer leagues in the world and forms part of the ‘big five’ leagues contested in Europe. The team sponsorship market is worth $1.5 billion in the 2023-2024 season, with the technology sector emerging as the most prominent industry, with 55 deals. Betting brands retain large prominence on Premier League shirts and are responsible for ~35% of all team shirt deals this season, as clubs cash in before the looming ban on such deals.
