Volleyball World, the commercial joint venture between the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, has announced a four-year extension of its exclusive partnership with Brazilian TV network Globo.
The extension, which will run until 2028, will allow Globo to continue to show volleyball on its free-to-air channel TV Globo, and its pay channel, Sportv.
Felix von Knorring, Volleyball World’s head of media said: “We are delighted to extend our collaboration with Globo, one of our long-standing partners in a passionate and pivotal market for the sport.
“This extension represents not just the continuation of our partnership; it marks an evolution of our alliance that benefits all parties involved, but most importantly, brings added advantages to fans throughout Brazil.”
Eduardo Gabbay, Globo´s sports channels director, added: “We are deeply happy with the sequence of this partnership. With this new agreement we are going to transmit over 1000 of FIVB and Volleyball World matches until 2028 on our various platforms, via free-to-air, pay TV and globoplay (digital).
“Volleyball is one of the most competitive and popular sports in Brazil, with great victories in its history and huge audiences in our platforms. Brazilian public has a true passion for this sport and will continue to follow the main championships in the next years with the same quality that they are already accustomed to.”
Late last year Volleyball World also extended its partnership with the Big Ten Network, run by Fox Sports alongside the US college sports conference.
Meanwhile, earlier this month Globo secured exclusive rights to Brazilian soccer’s upcoming 2024 Supercopa do Brasil match between Palmeiras and São Paulo.
The deal, which was signed with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), covers the match between the current champions of the Brasileirão league competition, Palmeiras, and the winners of the Copa do Brasil tournament, São Paulo.
