France Televisions, the French public-service broadcaster, has secured domestic free-to-air (FTA) rights to the Paris and Monte Carlo Masters, the top-tier French Masters 1000 tournaments on the men’s ATP tennis calendar, from 2024 to 2028.

The announcement was made at sports business summit Sportel Monaco ahead of this year’s Paris Masters, which runs from October 30 to November 5.

Domestic FTA rights to the Paris and Monte Carlo Masters are currently held by pay-TV broadcaster Canal Plus, which airs the matches on C8, its FTA digital terrestrial channel. It will broadcast this year’s Paris Masters for the last time before France Televisions takes over.

France Televisions' coverage of both tournaments, meanwhile, will start with next year’s Monte Carlo Masters from April 7 to 14, where it will broadcast one match per day on its platform and the final on one of its linear channels.

Main rights for the ATP tennis tournaments in France, including for the two French Masters, are currently held by media giant Warner Bros. Discovery, which shows events via its Eurosport pan-European broadcaster.

That deal, running from 2019 to 2023, is worth €11 million ($11.8 million) per year and includes all Masters 1000 events, as well as ATP 500 and ATP 250 tournaments. FTA rights to the two French Masters tournaments were then sub-licensed to Canal Plus as part of the agreement, with Eurosport broadcasting the two events simultaneously.

Last month, French publication L’Equipe reported WBD was on the cusp of renewing its deal with the ATP Tour for the 2024-28 cycle. 

Eurosport holds rights to the US Open and the Australian Open grand slams in France, while France Televisions and Amazon hold the rights to the French Open until 2027.

International pay-TV operator BeIN Sports has rights to the women’s WTA Tour until 2026. BeIN did have rights to the prestigious Wimbledon Grand Slam but must now renegotiate its contract with the tournament after it expired following the recent 2023 edition.
