The US Olympic and Paralympic Properties (USOPP) entity, which is in charge of selling sponsorship slots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and for Team USA through that year, now has a new chief executive.

John Slusher, a long-time member of the senior hierarchy at sportswear giant Nike, has been appointed and will take up the role on December 2.

In a statement, the LA28 organizing body has said that Slusher - who spent 26 years at Nike in total and was most recently vice president of sports marketing - will be in charge of all LA28 and USOPP revenue, covering domestic sponsorships, hospitality, and ticket sales.

This role was previously filled by Kathy Carter (also the CEO of LA28) before she left the organization in December last year.

Casey Wasserman, president and chair at LA28, has now said: “John's expertise in the global sports industry is second to none.

“He's an excellent addition to the best-in-class team we've assembled to execute an Olympic and Paralympic Games unlike the world has ever seen.”

Slusher added: “I’m thrilled to return to the world-class sports city of LA and build upon the strong foundation that’s in place at the USOPP.”

The most recent commercial partnership unveiled for the 2028 Summer Olympics was a deal with US medical institution Cedars-Sinai.

The agreement entails the provision of medical care for athletes, coaches, team personnel, and visitors who travel for the Olympics.

Cedars-Sinai will also be a medical adviser to LA28 via establishing medical services in the Olympic and Paralympic village and at sporting venues for the games.

In August, meanwhile, Autodesk, the multinational software firm, signed up as a partner of LA28, while US retailer Dick’s Sporting Goods was brought in as the games’ official sporting goods retail provider (Dick’s also now holds that role for the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee).

The 2028 games in California will be Los Angeles’ third time hosting the Olympics (previously 1984 and 1932) and the first time hosting the Paralympics.

LA28 brought in Reynold Hoover as its new chief executive in June.
