EuroLeague extends with Deutsche Telekom through 2029

The EuroLeague and EuroCup competitions will remain on the MagentaSports streaming service.

Euroleague Basketball, the organizers of Europe's elite EuroLeague competition, has extended its long-running broadcast partnership with German telecommunications firm Deutsche Telekom for a further three seasons.

The partnership, set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, will now run through the 2028-29 season. Both EuroLeague and second-tier EuroCup games will continue to be broadcast in Germany on Deutsche Telekom’s MagentaSport service.

MagentaSport has broadcast the two club competitions in Germany since 2015.

The platform will continue to provide HD live broadcasts of every game across the two competitions on its paid service, as well as the top game in each round presented free-to-air.

Speaking on the deal’s renewal, Euroleague Basketball marketing and communications executive officer Alex Ferrer Kristjansson stated: “[Deutsche Telekom’s] commitment to providing high-quality broadcasts and a comprehensive fan experience aligns perfectly with our goal of growing the sport of basketball In Germany.

“This renewal is a solid evidence of the success of our collaboration and the increasing popularity of our competitions in Germany."

Germany is a priority market for the EuroLeague and currently boasts two teams in the competition, Alba Berlin and Bayern Munich, the latter of which is a long-term licensed club and EuroLeague shareholder, and two that qualified for the 2024-25 EuroCup, Ratiopharm Ulm and Veolia Towers Hamburg.

Bayern Munich is one of the best-supported sides in the competition, having sold out 95% of its tickets in the 2023-24 campaign.

The showpiece Final Four of the 2023-24 EuroLeague season was hosted at the 14,500-capacity Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, the third time the city had hosted the event (the first three-time host of any city) and the fourth overall for a German city.

The EuroLeague has said that the German audience for basketball has grown by 50% in the last five years and that viewership of the sport on MagentaSport has surged 272% over the same period.

Alongside the EuroLeague and EuroCup, MagentaSport also holds broadcast rights for the 2025 men’s and women’s editions of FIBA’s continental EuroBasket competitions.
