All-electric boat racing series E1 has agreed a new multi-territory broadcast deal with international sports-focused OTT streaming service DAZN.
For the remaining three races of the 2024 E1 season, the league’s first, DAZN will broadcast coverage on its “freemium” free ad-supported content tier across a number of territories that includes major sports markets in North America, Europe, and Asia.
In Europe the DACH countries (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), Portugal, Belgium, Poland, Czech republic, Romania, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus, are the European territories that will be able to freely watch the remaining 2024 E1 races, it has been unveiled by the powerboating series.
In Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan have all added coverage while in East Asia, Japan too gains exposure.
Almost all of the markets in Southeast Asia will be covered as part of the deal, namely Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Canada is the sole North American territory covered by the deal, while New Zealand is the sole market in Oceania.
The partnership will begin on July 28 with E1’s upcoming Monaco race, before subsequent events in Rotterdam (September 8), and the season-ender in Hong Kong.
Speaking on the partnership, DAZN's chief executive Shay Segev stated: “DAZN’s platform is uniquely placed to give audiences the sports experience they want. E1 and DAZN are linked by a joint ambition to engage the sports fan of the future, using technology to build a sports ecosystem that provides innovation, excitement, and growth.”
E1 chief executive Rodi Basso added: “We are delighted to be partnering with such an innovative and world-leading sports entertainment organization in DAZN, in our first-ever season.
“It’s a credit to our new and innovative approach to racing on water, and the way we combine state-of-the-art technology together with sporting jeopardy to create an exciting and unique experience to sports and entertainment fans around the world.”
E1 is the latest addition to DAZN’s ever-expanding portfolio of free-tier sports properties as the broadcaster aims to grow its ad-supported content offering.
Last month, the streamer launched 10 new free-to-air channels through the expansion of its partnership with cloud-based broadcast technology firm Amagi.
Boxing TV and Matchroom Boxing, the two boxing-focused FAST channels, will be joined by PDC Darts, Motorvision TV (motorsports), Lacrosse TV, Padel TIME TV, Moto America TV (AMA Superbike Series racing), Billiard TV (cue sports), SportStak (variety) and ACL Cornhole TV (American Cornhole League).
E1, meanwhile, recently unveiled a distribution partnership with sports-focused media agency Story10.
Story10 now works to increase exposure around the E1 World Championship by distributing news content for each upcoming event in the series, across its network of digital and social channels.
