The nascent Hexagon Cup padel tournament has renewed its global broadcast deal with major OTT platform DAZN.
For the second consecutive year, the streaming service will be the global home of the Hexagon Cup, which will begin on 29 January in Madrid.
DAZN will broadcast all matches from the second edition of the tournament live (excluding the US) and for free.
Users will have access to both the qualifying rounds and the decisive phase of the tournament (2 February).
Viewers in Spain can view the tournament through the DAZN app.
The Hexagon Cup organisers have vowed to “invest significantly in audiovisual production to further elevate the standard of the tournament following the first edition.”
Astrid Thams, the recently appointed commercial managing director of the Hexagon Cup, said: “DAZN is the most global platform for sports streaming, and this renewal agreement confirms that we continue to grow and work towards making this event an international benchmark.”
Tim Godfrey, Strategic Advisor to Hexagon Cup, added: “DAZN was an outstanding partner for our inaugural event, demonstrating the power of their global platform and showcasing the Hexagon Cup’s innovative format to fans worldwide.
“Their commitment aligns perfectly with our vision to elevate the sport and connect with audiences across the globe.”
The inaugural Hexagon Cup took place in Madrid earlier this year and was launched by founders Enrique Buenaventura, Simon Freer, Alejandro Agag, and Alberto Longo, who are well-known for having founded Formula E, the Extreme E electric off-road racing series, and the E1 all-electric powerboating competition.
The event is described as padel’s first World Cup for private teams. It features men’s and women’s players competing in teams for an equal prize fund of €1 million ($1.08 million).
The second season will feature eight teams, up from six last year, with the additions of the Kru Padel by Taktika team, backed by Argentine soccer stars Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero, and 10 Padel led by Formula 1 driver, Pierre Gasly and the entrepreneur Loïc Féry.
Owners of the six original Hexagon Cup franchises include tennis stars Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal's academy, soccer player Robert Lewandowski, and Hollywood actress Eva Longoria.
