Danish Superliga forms TV production firm as domestic tender nears end

SSA 2023 A/S contains representatives from both the Danish soccer league and DMC Production.

Danish men’s soccer’s top-tier Superliga has established a TV production subsidiary, alongside Swedish firm DMC Production.

Company registration documents have now been found by media, for a new company called SSA 2023 A/S. The management of that new venture consists of Anders Antonsen, who is the Danish manager for DMC Production, and Esben Halding, head of business development for the 12-team Superliga.

It has been reported that the wider board also contains representatives from both parties.

Nordic media has reported that the new company’s purpose will be to "produce, commercialize, distribute, and sell, sports entertainment, sports data and media licenses, and other related business."

The establishment of this new company comes with the last round of bidding taking place amongst broadcasters for domestic rights to show Superliga action from 2024-25. The next cycle is likely to run through 2027-28.

Currently, Viaplay and Warner Bros. Discovery share Superliga rights in a deal running through until mid-2024.

They are responsible for broadcast production at matches under the terms of the current deal.

The tender, which the Divisionsforeningen league body announced in mid-March, also covers the second-tier 1st Division and the country’s Danish Cup knockout competition.

The deadline for interested parties to reply to the invitation to tender was May 10.

The tender was launched following a decision by Denmark’s Competition Council to change a law that until recently had prevented these rights from being held by only one broadcaster.

The law was suspended in December, meaning the tender could result in one network snapping up the entire portfolio of rights to Danish club soccer action for the next four years.
