The Cricket Australia (CA) governing body has unveiled Todd Greenberg as its new chief executive.

Greenberg is the current chief executive of the Australia Cricketers’ Association (ACA), appointed to that position in January 2021, and will replace Nick Hockley when he steps down from the CA helm at the end of the 2024-25 Australian cricketing summer after around five years in charge.

Greenberg is also the former chief executive of Australia’s National Rugby League competition (2016-20) and the former general manager of Stadium Australia in Sydney.

As head of the ACA, he was heavily involved in the most recent Memorandum of Understanding between that body and CA, signed in April 2023.

He said: “This is an extremely exciting time for cricket with the rapid growth of the game across the globe creating fantastic opportunities, while also presenting some challenges to ensure Australian cricket retains its position at the very peak of the game.

“Thanks to the work of the current administration the game has strong fundamentals in place. I want to ensure we build on this momentum so Australian cricket continues to thrive - from local parks to the nation's biggest stadiums.”

Mike Baird, chair of Cricket Australia, added: “Todd will bring enormous experience to the role from his time leading the National Rugby League and his current position as CEO of the Australian Cricketers' Association, as well as his time in club and stadium management.

“We are entering a period of great opportunity and the recruitment panel and CA board was enormously impressed by Todd's passion for cricket and his vision to build on the achievements of the past few years and continue the game's growth.”

Hockley, meanwhile, was appointed as CA’s chief executive on a full-time basis in May 2021, after around 12 months in temporary charge.

He first disclosed that he would be standing down in August (at which point Greenberg was cited as a frontrunner for the job).

Hockley took the role on an interim basis in June 2020 following the resignation of previous CEO Kevin Roberts, and since then has had to negotiate CA’s progress through several crises and challenges.

Before his time at CA, Hockley had been chief executive of the International Cricket Council's Twenty20 Women's World Cup in Australia in early 2020.
